Barnett was a five-star recruit out of Southern California, who went to Alabama, then enrolled at Palomar Community College in San Marcos, California. He has three years of eligibility remaining.
Barnett will not be eligible to start the 2017 season for Arizona State, but can play after the fourth game as long as finishes his JUCO academics at Palomar. Barnett has to complete 12 hours of degree credits and have a GPA of at least 2.5
