Arizona Wildcats add another QB

Arizona Sports News online

You can add Basha High quarterback Zack Werlinger to the Arizona Wildcat football program. Werlinger informed head coach Rich Rodriguez that he is going to accept the UofA offer as a “preferred walk-on” this fall. At 6’2 185 pounds, he threw for 6159 yards and 57 touchdowns in his high school career.
As a “preferred walk-on” he is assured a spot on the team, but is not offered a scholarship.
Werlinger carries a 4.5 GPA and will major in pre-law. He chose the Cats over Arizona State and UC Davis among others.

A year ago wide receiver Nate Phillips went from Basha to the Wildcats and turned in a first-team freshman All-American performance this past season.

Bears head coach Bernie Busken has several promising underclassmen in the program that are sure to gain substantial college interest (remember the name Hunter Rison(WR), son of Andre Rison). It will be interesting to see if the legwork put in by the Wildcats coaching staff (namely Charlie Ragle) will payoff down the road with this program.
