Arroyo reflects on past, looks to the future in AZ

Arizona Sports News online

Bronson Arroyo is facing one of the toughest obstacles an athlete can overcome: returning from an injury. Arroyo recently spoke with the media about his Tommy John surgery. He remains in a cast for another week before starting to build back his range of motion and arm strength.

While Arroyo hopes to have a successful rehab, he knows he is presented with a unique aspect of life athletes rarely experience during their careers.

“I’m going to take this as an opportunity to refresh my mind and just enjoy a bit of friends and family coming over, laying by the pool and not being on the road. Just doing the things we don’t get to do as normal folks,” Arroyo said.

Arroyo hopes his refreshed mind and body will create a new tenacity when he returns to the field.

“When I come back, I will be a bit hungrier for the game”.

While Arroyo’s absence from the field may be temporary this time, he is going to use the injury as a way to gauge what it will be like when he steps off the field for good.

“I haven’t had a lot of free time in the last 20 years, and now that I will it gives you a bit of outlook on what it would be like to be retired if you really want to shut it down at 39 or 40 or do you want to keep pushing it to your mid-forties like Jamie Moyer.”
