Frisco, TX –
ASU running back commit DeaMonte Trayanum feels like he has something to prove.
After running for 1,313 yards and 26 touchdowns as a junior at Archbishop Hoban High School in Akron, OH, he wants to show he can do more. That was his attitude when he participated in The Opening last week as a running back and safety.
“I have a lot of people out here underestimating me so I’m used to it,” Trayanum said. “I’m used to being under the radar, but I’m excited to show off what I can do. ”
So how did the Sun Devils come into Ohio and nab the state’s top running back when the likes Ohio State, Penn State, Notre Dame, Wisconsin and Stanford had been recruiting him for much longer?
Shaun Aguano.
The former Chandler Wolves head coach turned Sun Devils running backs coach made Trayanum an instant priority. The running back was the first out-of-state visit Aguano took after getting hired. They had an instant bond, and the Sun Devils were able to earn his commitment less than three months after offering him.
“It means truly a lot because the relationship is truly genuine. I know he’ll do everything in his heart that he can to the best of his abilities to support me.”

One of the reasons the 6-foot, 205-pound Trayanum committed to the Sun Devils was the appeal of experiencing a new part of the country. He thinks his Big Ten playing style can potentially run over defenses within the conference.
“I think the Pac-12 hasn’t seen a big running back like me,” Trayanum said. “As long as I keep working on what I need to, I think I should be a good fit in the offense.”
Here’s what 247Sports National Recruiting Analyst Greg Biggins had to say about Trayanum at The Opening:
This is a guy with national, national offers and you’re going ‘How did ASU pull that one off? He’s quick. He’s got some shiftiness, he’s got some ability to make you miss in the hole. He’s a good-sized kid, good straightline speed as well, so I think he’s an every down back in terms of just his body, his athleticism, his strength. He checks off all those boxes.
