VIDEO: ASU Football Breaks Down Signing Day Haul

QB1…2….& 3

Most classes bring in one quarterback each year. Two can happen but not often. ASU brought in three, and all of them are top-20 quarterbacks in their respective styles. Jayden Daniels, Joey Yellen and Ethan Long all bring a lot to the table, and the coaching staff is open to a wide open competition with incumbent quarterback Dillon Sterling-Cole.

The competition can start in just a few months when all three quarterbacks will enroll early as well as offensive lineman Dohnovan West.

Sun Devil Size

When Herm Edwards took over the football program, he mentioned how the members of the roster will have a much more imposing size and stature. After the staff’s first full class, the four offensive lineman commits averaged 6-foot-3.5 and 286.25 pounds. The two offensive linemen averaged 6-foot-4.5 and 250 pounds. The three pass catchers are all 6-foot-1 or taller and the three quarterbacks have good size to them at all.

Edwards feels this is a good first step, but a continued work in progress.

MANDRAKE!!

Coach Edwards revealed his standard for recruits, and it, well…had wings. His name is Mandrake, and I’ll let him explain.

Stephon Wright Commitment

The Sun Devils got a big win on Signing Day as four-star defensive end Stephon Wright made his commitment to the Sun Devils. He was the second highest-rated commit ASU signed, following only Jayden Daniels. The 6-foot-4, 280-pound defensive end notched 123 tackles, 34 taclkes for loss and 15.5 sacks. Recruiting coordinator Antonio Pierce shared how his commitment could impact future targets.

In total, the Sun Devils added 17 commitments on Wednesday and are rated the 30th overall class according to 247Sports.com.
