Warriors Survive
Westwood High School is 3-0 after hanging on to beat Mesa, 38 – 28. They were out to a 31-7 lead, and were able to fight off the Jackrabbits to remain undefeated. After the game, quarterback Kane Tieman said, this team is “not 1-9 Westwood anymore”. They go to Gila Ridge next week. Looking at their schedule and Marcos de Niza on October 17th could be a fun one.
Interstate Matchup Next Week
Hamilton had quite the game Friday, beating Pinnacle 37-35. The Huskies face off against Liberty High School next week. No not that Liberty. This team comes from Henderson, Nevada. They’re 3-0 and currently rated the second-best team in the state of Nevada behind Bishop Gorman, who happens to be the top-rated team in the nation. This can serve as a pseudo-rubber match for the Sollenberger Classic a few weeks ago, where Bishop Gorman flexed their muscles against Brophy, winning 44-0, and Mountain Pointe did the same to Nevada’s Reed High School, 66-13.
Lions Looking Good
Since we are on the topic of Liberty, Peoria’s Liberty High School is now 4-0 after beating Notre Dame 35-10. The Lions have been impressive early this year. In their last three games, they have scored at least 30 points. They host Apollo and then go to Centennial over the next two weeks.
Gant Big In Stature and Statistics For Tempe
Tempe’s Emanuel Gant impressed in the Buffaloes win over McClintock tonight, gaining 345 yards of total offense and three touchdowns. The senior has played varsity since a freshman, and also is quite the basketball player standing at 6’3” 230 lbs. The Buffaloes are 3-0 and go to Thunderbird next week.
Pride Leaving No Doubt
Mountain Pointe beat Maryvale 73-0 Friday. Through four games, the Pride has outscored opponents 251-19. They do start a tough stretch of their schedule as they take on Chandler and Hamilton the next two weeks.
Coyotes Unbeaten For Second Straight Year
Skyline is now 3-0 for the second straight year after beating Corona Del Sol, 28-18. The Coyotes ended 2013 with a 6-5 record, and they were knocked out by Chandler in the opening round of the playoffs. Head Coach Angelo Paffumi and company are hoping to continue the win streak as they take on Gilbert next week.
