The Arizona Cardinals roster re-stocking continued Thursday when the club announced they had agreed to terms with veteran running back Chris Johnson on a one-year deal. “CJ2K” returns to the Bird Gang after reportedly picking Arizona over the Miami Dolphins.
The deal was first reported by ESPN insider Adam Schefter.
The 30-year-old three-time Pro-Bowler added a much-needed spark to the Cards’ rushing attack gaining 814 yards on 196 carries (three touchdowns) before suffering a broken tibia which ended his season in Week 12 last fall. His four 100-yard rushing games last season were the most by a Cardinals’ player in 30 years. Johnson is expected to back up second-year pro David Johnson who thrived as a rookie in 2015.
The move to re-sign Chris Johnson comes on the heels of the club acquiring talented young pass rusher Chandler Jones via trade from the New England Patriots and inking guard Evan Mathis to a one-year deal. Both bring a winning pedigree to Bruce Arians’ talented team.
