Two significant basketball stories in Arizona tonight.
ESPN reported that the Suns are exploring the possibility of acquiring Los Angeles Lakers center Pau Gasol. The report says that the Suns would put a package together that would include injured center Emeka Okafor, whose 14.5 million dollar contract expires at the end of the season.
Marc Stein had this report. He has had very good information coming out of the Suns through the years, so I have no reason to question.
Right now the Suns hold the 6th playoff spot in the Western Conference and are riding a five game winning streak.
Gasol has been out with a strained groin over the last week, but put up very good numbers in January (20ppg, 11rbs).
Meantime, a big blow to the Arizona Wildcats terrific season. They have lost sophomore big man Brandon Ashley for the rest of the season with a foot injury.
Ashley injured his foot after landing awkwardly early in Saturday nights loss at California.
He was the third leading scorer (11.5ppg) for head coach Sean Miller this season.
With Ashley out Hollis-Jefferson figures to get some of the minuets or the Cats could go with a three guard rotation that would include Gabe York.
Arizona hosts Oregon this Thursday.
I will have much more on both of these stories during Mondays show on Sports360az.com from 10a-noon.
