The Pac-12 conference announced on Monday that senior linebacker Brandon Magee had been named the defensive player of the week.
In the Sun Devils 41-34 win over rival Arizona, Magee had a career high 17 tackles. 14 of which were solo tackles which is a Territorial Cup record and three tackles were for loss. Magee leads the team and is second in the conference in tackles and became the first Sun Devil to eclipse 100 tackles in a season since Robert James in 2007.
“I feel like Mohammed Ali in his prime,” said Magee after the game last Friday. “Don’t say I told you so. I didn’t want to say nothing during the week but I knew we were going to win. We had to get some turnovers and get the ball back to our offense…I have big time faith in our offense and they did exactly what they needed to do.”
ASU’s defense is ranked second in the conference in total defense and is second in the nation in sacks as well as tackles for loss. Magee himself is 31st in the nation in total tackles.
Sun Devil running back Marion Grice and punter John Hubner were also nominated for players of the week as well on offense and special teams respectively.
