Buzz around Coyotes growing deeper in to post-season

It is an exciting time if you’re a Coyotes fan. This team has never ventured this deep in a season in their entire 15 years of existence here in Arizona, and for that fans need to celebrate.

All the talk of who’s going to own this team, and if they’re going to move is really moot right now. The focus should be on the Coyotes being eight wins away from their first Stanley Cup championship.

However, before you go ahead and plan your future days around a championship parade, there’s a lot of work to be done before that can happen.

If the Los Angeles Kings have a say, the parade would run through downtown L.A. before it goes through downtown Phoenix and/or Glendale.

After all, this is an 8th seeded team who were oh-so-close to flip flopping with the Coyotes and being a third seed.

These teams met six times during the regular season, with both teams winning three games.

In those six games, just 25 goals were scored. With guys like Mike Smith and Jonathan Quick guarding the net, did you expect anything more than that?

As crazy as the Blackhawks series was with all the overtime games, being able to dispatch the Predators with just one overtime game coming in the series, and being able to rest up before the West Finals pleases general manager Don Maloney.

“We’re healthy, we’re in good shape,” Maloney said. “There’s really no excuses not to come out and put on a good show.”

The Kings have been road warriors so far in the playoffs, winning all five road games against Vancouver and St. Louis, so the Coyotes need to be aware of the confidence that L.A. will bring into Games 1 and 2, as they’ll be looking to steal home ice this weekend.

“We have some pretty good momentum ourselves,” head coach Dave Tippett said. “We feel like we’ve got some things going for our game too, and I feel like it’ll be a very good series.”
