Cardinals add another arm, take QB Lindley with second of sixth round picks

With the second of their sixth round draft picks, the Cardinals looked toward their offense by taking quarterback Ryan Lindley out of San Diego State.

Lindley was a four-year starter for the Aztecs, starting 49 consecutive games during his career, which is a school record. Lindley also holds several San Diego State and Mountain West Conference records, including pass completions (961), pass attempts (1,732), passing yards (12,690) and total offensive yards (12,415).

Lindley’s biggest plus is his arm strength, as most scouts ranked him as the strongest quarterback in this year’s draft. At 6’3”, 229 lbs., Lindley sure has the size and athleticism to make things happen offensively, as evidenced by his career numbers.

Of course no human is perfect, so we have to talk about Lindley’s weaknesses. At times he can be inaccurate with his throws, and will need some development in this aspect of his game. In 2010, Lindley completed a career high 57.72 percent of his passes. In his senior season, he completed just 53 percent of his throws.

Lindley doesn’t have the best footwork, and will take too many sacks as a result of holding onto the ball too long.

Again, these are things that can be worked on and developed over time.

Lindley himself admitted his footwork is not one of his strong suits, which he’s actively working on.

“Now I have great feet and I can get myself set,” Lindley said. “I plan on just changing that up and doing well from here on out.”

Never hurts to have an extra arm on the roster does it?
