While the release of Kevin Kolb made the headlines, the Cardinals made a solid addition on Friday signing defensive end out of Wisconsin Matt Shaughnessy.
Shaughnessy is going into his 5th season in the NFL with the Cardinals after spending the first four with the Oakland Raiders. He has tallied 134 total tackles and 15.5 sacks in that time. However, it is his strong run stopping ability that makes him an attractive sign to line up next to Calais Campbell, Darnell Dockett, Sam Acho and David Carter.
The sign by the Cardinals was first reported by Cardinals linebacker and former teammate of Shaughnessy’s at Wisconsin, line backer O’Brien Schofield.
“Happy to see we signed my longtime friend and college teammate Matt Shaughnessy,” Schofield said on Twitter. “Cards making moves #birdgang.”
Like Schofield, Shaughnessy finished his career with a serious knee injury, tearing his ACL. But he has proven to be very durable in the NFL having played in all 16 regular season games in three of his four seasons with the Raiders.
