The Arizona Cardinals continue to roll and make roster moves.
On Wednesday, the team came to terms on a two-year deal with punter Dave Zastudil, and on Thursday, free-agent safety James Sanders signed a one-year deal with the team.
Zastudil is back with the team after having a banner 2011 season. In 15 games, Zastudil punted 87 times for a career-high 3,929 yards.
Zastudil is heading into his 10th NFL season, and his second with the Cardinals.
Sanders comes to the Cardinals after spending last season with the Atlanta Falcons. Sanders appeared in 15 games (six starts), and had 48 tackles and a fumble recovery. Sanders also played in the Falcons Wild Card game against the New York Giants and had six tackles.
Before going to Atlanta, the Fresno State grad was a member of the New England Patriots for the first six seasons of his career. In New England, Sanders started 50 of the 84 regular season games he played in, and seven of 10 postseason games.
Two big things jump out to me with this signing: his age and his productivity. Sanders is just 28, and his numbers are not too shabby.
It would do the Cardinals well to get some more depth at the safety position, especially knowing how Adrian Wilson played with a torn biceps tendon last season (which sounds soooo painful!)
They can’t afford to have Wilson suffer another injury of that magnitude and expect him to play at a high level, like he did last season, which still boggles my mind.
Good signings by the Cardinals, as they continue to add and strengthen their roster for the 2012-2013 season.
