Cardinals feeling confident

The Cardinals 20-17 overtime win over the Browns was their fourth straight win, bringing them to 7-7 on the season.

Boy it seemed like 1-6 was an eternity ago didn’t it?

You can call them the “Cardiac Cards” if you want to, but the stats don’t lie. In six of the team’s seven wins this year, they’ve trailed in the fourth quarter.

Head coach Ken Whisenhunt spoke to the media on Monday, and said that for a while there, coming back to win games was just old hat for the team.

“We’ve had our moments when it wasn’t a big deal,” Whisenhunt said. “Especially when we were really rolling offensively. We felt we could always score points and come back.”

Whisenhunt was quick to give praise to the defense as well, saying their ability to stop opposing offenses would put the offense in a great position to move the ball and put points on the board.

“There is definitely a feeling of confidence with our guys,” Whisenhunt said.

Quarterback Kevin Kolb sat out Sunday’s game, which allowed John Skelton to get the start. Whisenhunt said Kolb was affected by the lights inside the stadium and by the crowd noise, so he’s clearly not 100 percent. Whisenhunt wouldn’t commit to either quarterback being the starter in Cincinnati, Ohio, on Christmas Eve against the Bengals.

“It’s more about who’s available, who’s healthy and what gives us the best chance to win,” Whisenhunt said.

With Sunday’s win, Whisenhunt is now the Cardinals all-time winningest head coach, passing Don Coryell. In typical Whisenhunt fashion, he deflected all the praise toward his team.

“It’s a great accomplishment for our team, more than it is me,” Whisenhunt said. “I’m very proud of it, but that’s something I’ll think about later.”
