Cardinals Ink Iupati to a Five Year Deal

Arizona Sports News online

It was not long ago that the Arizona Cardinals offensive line was somewhat of a laughing stock of the NFL. After now two free agent splashes in two consecutive years, thy red birds have put together something special in the offensive trenches.

Last season it was Jared Veldheer to be the future at left tackle. As the new calendar year of the NFL began on Tuesday, it became Mike Iupati this season to be the future at left guard. The details of the deal came down soon after Free Agents were officially allowed to sign.

The former 49ers first round pick out of the University of Idaho is just 27 years old, has made it to three pro bowls and one time an all pro in. His production was down in 2014 due to sustaining a concussion and then later in the season, an injured elbow. San Francisco moved toward more of an eleven personnel under Colin Kaepernick at quarterback which might not cater to Iupati’s strengths. He comes to the Cardinals who pride themselves on executing in the three points of the offense with running, passing and play action.

The Cardinals also signed former Pittsburgh and Oakland linebacker LaMarr Woodley to a one year deal at the start of free agency.

A born and bred Arizonan, Jared has had great passion for the hometown teams all his life. He now channel's that passion into covering the pro, college and high school teams around the state as a Multimedia Reporter for Sports360AZ.
