The Cardinals lost one tackle and gained another. Just one day after releasing Levi Brown, Arizona came to terms with free agent guard/tackle Adam Snyder on a five-year deal. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.
Snyder spent his first seven years in the league as a member of the division rival San Francisco 49ers.
Snyder played in all 16 regular season games for San Francisco last season, starting 13 of them at the guard position.
“It’s an opportunity to step my game up, and I’m excited about that opportunity,” Snyder said.
In his seven years in San Francisco, Snyder started 69 games at guard and tackle. Snyder also played the backup center role as well when needed.
He definitely brings some versatility to the Cardinals, being skilled at every position on the offensive line.
Snyder said he’s had discussions with the coaching staff as to where they think he would best fit, and he thinks the guard position would be the ideal place for him.
“The conversations leaned a little bit toward that direction,” Snyder said. “Whatever I can do to help the team win, that’s what I’m going to do.”
Snyder was one of the integral pieces on a 49ers line that allowed running back Frank Gore to gain over 1,200 yards rushing last season.
Snyder said he will miss playing in the Bay Area, but he’s looking forward to the challenge of doing battle for Beanie Wells, another 1,000+ yard rusher.
“I can take some things I learned from Frank, and hopefully help the team,” Snyder said.
In other Cardinals news, their secondary just got a bit thinner, after cornerback Richard Marshall jetted off to Miami.
Marshall took a trip to South Florida on Wednesday and became a Dolphin, signing a three-year, $16-million deal.
Marshall will add depth to a Miami secondary that already has two solid cornerbacks in Vontae Davis and Sean Smith.
Marshall will definitely be missed here. He was brought on after the Cardinals sent cornerback Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie to the Eagles in the Kevin Kolb deal. He started nine games last season, and had 78 tackles and three interceptions.
