Cardinals part ways with QB Brian Hoyer

Arizona Sports News online

The Cardinals are down to three quarterbacks now after the team let Brian Hoyer go on Monday, per NFL insider Adam Caplan.

The move clears $2 million in salary cap room for Arizona.

According to NFL.com’s Ian Rapoport , the team shopped Hoyer around to several teams, but they had no takers.

There’s been quite a bit of movement at the quarterback position since Bruce Arians and Steve Keim took over at their respective positions in the organization.

Kevin Kolb and John Skelton were let go, while Carson Palmer and Drew Stanton were brought in. The only player that had no movement at all was Ryan Lindley, who remains on the roster alongside Palmer and Stanton.

Hoyer was given a second-round tender by the Cardinals, meaning the team would’ve had to give up a second-round pick if Hoyer was signed to an offer sheet during the restricted free agent signing period.

In two appearances (one start) with the Cardinals, Hoyer was 30-of-53 for 330 yards, one touchdown and two interceptions.
