Cardinals staying busy making moves; re-sign LS Leach and LB Walker

The Arizona Cardinals continue to make smart, needed roster moves.

On Monday, the team announced the signing of long snapper Mike Leach and linebacker Reggie Walker.

Leach signed a three-year deal, Walker a two-year deal.

Since coming to the Cardinals from the Broncos back in 2009, Leach hasn’t missed a single game.

Leach should be nicknamed “Ironman,” considering he’s played in 152 consecutive games, which is the longest current streak on the team and third-longest among active NFL long snappers. For his career, Leach has played in 171 games and has 53 special teams tackles.

Walker played in all 16 games last season for the Cardinals, and finished second on the team with a career high 16 special teams tackles.

Walker’s strength is on special teams. He has 30 special teams tackles and 20 tackles on defense in his Cardinals career.

It’s good to see the Cardinals valuing the talent they have in-house, and not going crazy on the outside to bolster their team.

After all, this is a team that clawed their way to an 8-8 season in 2011, after a horrendous 1-6 start.

There’s no question they have competent and capable players on their roster, so why not do the smart thing and keep the core intact and continue to build from there, which seems to be their mindset right now.
