From the looks and sounds of things the Arizona Cardinals basically have one foot out the I-17 door in Flagstaff and are heading down the Valley for training camp in Glendale.
Unless there is a hail mary coming out of the high country, it will be the end of era….a good era for the Cardinals and the Flagstaff community…
The massive lightning storms at 1pm and gone by 2pm…the fans on the hills surrounding the fields…the fence line for the fans waiting for autographs…all gone…
It’s not convenient for the team to travel back and forth for those three weeks in August, more fans can see the product in the Valley, and I am sure that there will be a way for the team to find ways to have a revenue stream off camp in Glendale
While I like being in Flagstaff, I completely agree with the Cardinals on this move. The two hour drive each way for players isn’t smart, some players just take private planes back and forth, injured players or contract hassles just end up wasting time.
Flagstaff didn’t do anything wrong here…the people have been nice, NAU has made substantial improvements through the years and the city has always been hospitable.
It’s the end of an era..if you want to travel out of town to watch football and cool off, Arizona State at Camp Tontozona will have to be the alternative for you.
