ANAHEIM, CA–The Arizona Wildcats will look to stay hot after Sunday’s blowout win over Gonzaga when they take on fourth-seeded San Diego State this evening here at the Honda Center.
One of the key match-ups to watch will be Xavier Thames against Arizona’s trio of guards in Nick Johnson, T.J. McConnell and Gabe York who will all likely their shot to slow down the Mountain West Player of the Year. Thames scored 19 points but only made five of 16 field goal attempts in the ‘Cats 69-60 win over SDSU in San Diego back on November 14.
The ‘Cats will again be without the services of Brandon Ashley who, despite being lost for the season, is with the team here in Anaheim and says rehabilitation on his broken foot is going well. The Aztecs will feature two players: Dwayne Polee and Aqueel Quinn who did not play in the first meeting.
The early game this afternoon features sixth-seeded Baylor taking on second-seeded Wisconsin. Two teams with two contrasting styles. The Bears have been inconsistent, starting Big 12 play 2-8 before getting hot at the end of the year. The Badgers are deep and sound, per usual under head coach Bo Ryan.
Check back later tonight for complete post-game coverage as UofA looks to get one step closer to the Final Four next weekend in north Texas.
