Cesar Chavez squared up with Alhambra on Wednesday afternoon, and early on the full court rush of the Champions proved to be too much for Alhambra. Chavez jumped out to a 19-6 lead after the first quarter and by 23 at the half. The Champions cruised to a 57-33 victory, thanks to some poor shooting by Alhambra and lots of running by Chavez.
Chavez center Pablo Rivas and guard Shaun Patterson were the catalysts for the huge first half. Rivas led all scorers with eight points in the first half. Patterson, who led many of the full-court blasts, had five in the first 16 minutes of play.
Rivas would pump in six more in the third quarter for Chavez, as the lead grew to as big as 29. Rivas would end up with 14 points in the game.
Center Kuoc Mathiang and forward Matthew Phifer led the Lions in scoring with six points a piece.
