Oklahoma quarterback Kyler Murray was the best football player that I saw this season. He was first on my Heisman ballot that was submitted this past week. Yes, I waited until all of the games were played before casting my vote. Murray played in high pressure games just like Tua Tagovailoa (who finished second on my ballot, as did Dwayane Haskins who finished third in the voting. What set Murray apart for me was the way he led his teams to victory. There were more memorable performances in my mind by Murray then there were from the other two players. If your a fan of either Alabama or Ohio State you will disagree with my vote. That’s what fans do, I get it.
All three players had terrific seasons for their respective teams. It’s not easy to have three Heisman finalists all playing the same position(first time that has happened in a decade).
My vote had nothing to do with regional bias or how many times a team had a national TV game. It’s easy to find ways to see players from Alabama, Oklahoma, and Ohio State play their games. I am not one that looks at statistics as the first or even second metric in judging a players success. Eye ball test, competition every week, and the impact on the entire team. When it was all said and done, this was a pretty simple vote…
