Chandler and Hamilton will meet in the Open Division finale next week at Desert Vista high school, but the much-anticipated Battle of Arizona rematch almost didn’t happen.
In Saturday night’s semifinals, the Huskies blew out Salpointe Catholic 58-14, but the Wolves could not put away the pesky Lions of Liberty before pulling out an overtime 35-34 victory. The Wolves looked to be cruising in the first half, leading by a 28-7 margin after the first 30 minutes. But Liberty would storm all the way back to tie the game at 28 and force OT. Chandler would score first on an Eli Sanders TD, but the Lions would answer with a score of their own. Liberty went for the win after the score, attempting a two point conversion.
CHANDLER ESCAPES.
Liberty’s two-point try is no good and the Wolves win 35-34 to advance to the Open Division championship.
