Editor’s note: This interview was done prior to Chaparral’s preseason scrimmage. Shortly after that interview, Chaparral was forced to self-quarantine after there were positive tests for coronavirus on the roster.
You’d think the pressure might be on for the Chaparral quarterback taking over for Jack Miller. The current Ohio State quarterback is one of the best quarterbacks to come through the state and helped bring the Firebirds to an Open Division title.
If there is pressure on Brayten Silbor, he is doing a nice job masking it.
The 2022 quarterback has appeared in relief the past two years when Miller went down with an injury, and performed. As a freshman, he threw for 209 yards and a touchdown in a playoff matchup against Desert Vista. Last year, Silbor completed 62.5% of his passes and threw 11 touchdowns to just two interceptions in five games. Most notably against Saguaro, arguably the best secondary in the state, Silbor threw for 301 yards and a touchdown.
The quarterback has yet to receive his first offer, but has heard from plenty of Power 5 programs. It likely would have been a busy recruiting offseason for Silbor if it weren’t for the coronavirus halting on-campus visits and camps.

Compound that with the Firebirds not being able to play their first two games due to positive tests on the roster, and Silbor is ready as ever to take the field and build upon his strong start to his varsity career.
