Cheating ‘Stros, Charli Strikes Again, Haller and Pasch Honored

I loved watching Jose Altuve play baseball. I loved watching his small stature put up big numbers. He was the 2017 MVP of Major League Baseball. But now Altuve is just another player on the cheating Houston Astros. He’s a player that was on a team that was nailed to the wall by Major League Baseball for sign stealing. He was on a team who’s GM and Manager were suspended by the League on Monday and eventually fired by the ‘Stros owner. He was on a team that cheated with a camera based sign  system in place. He and his teammates had an unfair advantage of knowing what pitches were coming before they left the arm on the mound. This one isn’t that hard to figure out. There’s gamesmanship in sports and then there’s cheating. I don’t have time for those who think that this story isn’t a big deal…

Give me another college basketball coach who knocked off the 2nd and 3rd ranked teams in a span of 48-hours? Charli Turner Thorne is one of the Valley’s sports treasures. North of 450 wins in her Arizona State coaching career, she’s taken for granted in the local sports scene. What the Arizona State women’s team did over the weekend to the Oregon schools was beyond impressive…

How far away is Arizona State football from being able to compete with schools like LSU and Clemson? That’s the question for supporters of the program to ask. The gap appears to be closing, but having kids with stars doesn’t guarantee success. Heisman Trophy winner Joe Burrow only had 2-stars next to his name coming out of high school…

Saw “1917”  over the weekend. One continuous shot for the entire film. Stunning. Go see it!

One Valley high school football program may have as many as three impact out-of-state transfers on the field this fall. With 7 on 7 national travel teams now becoming like club basketball, it’s not surprising to see this emerging trend. I don’t have to agree with it or like it, but it’s happening…

Congrats to Dave Pasch and Doug Haller for being selected into the National Sports Media Association 2020 Hall of Fame Class. Two good men, who put out terrific content on their platforms on a continual basis…
