For a team that leads the Pac-12 in turnovers and has struggled to get into an offensive flow all season, a reliable point guard is just what the doctor ordered.
Over the last four games, junior Chris Colvin has stepped into that role and is beginning to flourish. His minutes have gone from almost non-existant to playing 39 minutes against Washington on Thursday and all 40 minutes in the Sun Devils home win over Washington State on Saturday.
“It was either step up or sit down and I chose to step up,” Colvin said after the Devils 71-67 win over Washington State Saturday. “My team has given me confidence to do and I just came out and did what I needed to do.”
“He is settling in and getting more comfortable in what we are doing,” said ASU Head Coach Herb Sendek said Saturday.
After the game Saturday, Sendek also mentioned the outstanding flow of their offense as well as the fact that the team had less turnovers than their opponent for the first time this season.
Could that have a direct correlation to Colvin seeing more minutes?
What isn’t in question is the fact that as Colvin’s minutes increase, so does his confidence and the Sun Devils offensive production.
The Sun Devils, now 3-6 in the Pac-12, travel to Palo Alto on Thursday to play Stanford.
