Cody Bellinger Among List of Inductees Elected Into Chandler Sports Hall of Fame

By Andrew Bell

The 15th annual Chandler Sports Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony will be held this Saturday, Feb. 9 at Hamilton High School.

Highlighting the list of inductees is one former Hamilton standout who is gearing up for his third season in Major League Baseball. Cody Bellinger, who was picked in the fourth round of the 2013 MLB Draft, will be honored. Bellinger won Rookie of the Year with the Los Angeles Dodgers in 2017.

Along with Bellinger, Dion Jordan, Jamie Westbrook, Ashton Wolf, and Scott Timmer will be recognized for their athletic achievements.

At Chandler High School, Jordan was a top defensive lineman and ended up taking his talents to the University of Oregon before going on to be drafted in the first round by the Miami Dolphins. He is now on the Seattle Seahawks.

Westbrook is a current minor league pitcher with the Arizona Diamondbacks. He has been up and down between the team’s double-A and triple-A affiliates, but prior to his professional career, he was a standout at Basha High School.

The lone female of the group being inducted is Wolf, who was a multi-sport athlete at Valley Christian High School. She excelled in track and field, basketball, and softball during her time with the Trojans. She won three state titles in the 1600-meter relay in track and field.

Alongside Wolf will be one of her former coaches at this weekend’s festivities. Timmer, who coached the Valley Christian women’s basketball team for two decades, will be honored for his accomplishments. He accumulated three state championships during his time coaching the program.

All of the aforementioned athletes above are being recognized for their achievements at the prep level, and their elections were comprised by former administrators and athletes within the Chandler community.
