Colleges Taking Notice of Jalan Early’s Size, Versatility

High school football can cause some versatile positions

Wide receivers and the secondary, tight end and linebacker, offensive and defensive line.

Rarely is it defensive end and quarterback.

But that’s what Millennium athlete Jalan Early brings to the table.

As a junior, he juggled football, basketball and baseball and was a member of a Tiger defense that was one of the best in 5A. He was also the backup quarterback, a position he will take over this year.

“I’m going to go out and do what I can,” Early said. “I like defense. I like offense, I like doing both sides, hopefully I can perform at both sides.”

Early has grown this offseason, standing at 6-foot-3 and 215 pounds. He stepped away from baseball and “embraced the suck” this offseason, according to his head coach, Lamar Early, who also happens to be his father.

“He’s been hungry,” Coach Early said. “He plays basketball, so he didn’t get to get in the weight room until the end of February because we were in the state championship. Since he’s been in there, it’s been straight work.”

Early has added offers from NAU, Dixie State and Yale as an athlete and hopes to continue his recruiting momentum this year.

“It’s good to get all the butterflies out and just go out and perform and see what happens next.”

And Early hopes to continue to perform no matter how the Millennium coaching staff implements him.
