After a few weeks of spring practice, Arizona State put on some game day uniforms and fans got to see their first glimpse of the played in front of their 2015 Sun Devils at the annual Spring Game on Friday Night from Sun Devil Stadium.
Familiar players like Mike Bercovici, Jordan Simone, D.J. Foster and Llyod Carrington stood out as usual but there were also some new faces that turned some heads in the scrimmage like redshirt freshman linebacker Ismael Murphy-Richardson as well as sophomore running back Kalen Ballage who scored multiple touchdowns and also suited up on defense as well as an edge rusher and tallied a few tackles.
Here is what some of the faces of this Sun Devil team had to say after the conclusion of the Spring Game:
Todd Graham on the scrimmage: “So far this is the best spring that we have had thus far. We had some missed opportunities, had some drops tonight, but a lot of promise. This team has got something special but we’ve got a lot of work to do.”
Todd Graham on the goal for the scrimmage: “First opportunity for our guys to have a game day situation. I wanted to see speed, physicality and finish on plays…But it’s awesome to come in here under the lights, see the construction, see the progress, see where we’re headed, see the huge commitment that we have here to build a national power.”
Mike Bercovici on connecting with D.J. Foster: “Yeah you know all spring, we have been about an inch off here and there but today it was finally good to connect with him. He has been working so hard working on a new position. But the whole entire wide receiving unit is real close so it’s nice that they had a good day today.
Mike Bercovici on throwing interception to roommate Jordan Simone: “Ah man I am probably going to sleep at my sisters tonight because I don’t want togo home. But I love him, he is such a hard worker so it’s alright that he got one on me.”
Jordan Simone on intercepting Bercovici: “I was just bumped I hadn’t had a pick all spring, it didn’t matter who it is, Brady, Manny or Mike, I was just glad to get one before spring was over. I’m not going to showboat in his face, in front of a camera at least, but when we get home it’s on.”
Jordan Simone on the great play of the defense: “We have just got guys who are doing what they are being coached to do. When you’ve got that in the system, we’re going to play great defense.”
Lloyd Carrington on the defenses’ improvement this spring: “We have improved tremendously. We are still not where we want to be, you know our goal is to go 15-0 this year and win a National Championship. So we’ve just got to take it day-by-day, get better at our fundamentals and just taking care of business on and off the field.”
