It was a sold out Sammy Duane Gymnasium at Corona del Sol High School on Saturday and it took time for both teams to settle their nerves.
Number one seeded Corona got off to a slow start but separated themselves from a scrappy 16 seeded Desert Mouuntain Wolves team winning 55-43.
The Aztecs stayed in the game early thanks to offensive rebounds and points in the paint from Nebraska football commit, Avery Moss. He finished with 10 points on the night.
The Wolves’ Anthony Tepedino was feeling his stroke early and was solid for his teams early attack. He had a team high 10 points.
In the end it was too much Calaen Robinson. The future Sun Devil led the Aztecs as they came out fast and aggressive in the second half. Robinson finished with a game high 20.
Corona del Sol is moving on to face nine seeded Brophy who got a big road win Saturday over eight seeded Westview. Tip off at 7:45pm Tuesday from Wells Fargo Arena.
