Devon Allen has quite a few choices as to where he’ll play football and run track at in college.
Fortunately for Arizona State, they’re definitely in the mix for Allen’s services.
The Sun Devils have some stiff competition to beat out for Allen. UCLA, Florida State and Oregon are the schools that have met with Allen so far. Stanford, Arkansas, Texas Tech and Clemson are also in this “mosh pit” for Allen.
Despite the high number of schools he’s considering, Allen says there’s a number of factors weighing in Arizona State’s favor.
“ASU’s the home town, it’s the place to be for most of the kids,” Allen said.
Allen singled out D.J. Foster and Jaxon Hood – two true freshmen who have stood out and done very well this season. That’s something Allen said he’d love to be able to do in his first season.
With the Sun Devils, Allen could come right in and contribute on the offense, something Allen found out first hand from offensive coordinator Mike Norvell and tight ends coach/recruiting coordinator Chip Long, who’ve been in constant contact with Allen throughout the entire recruiting process.
“They said they need some receivers,” Allen said. “So that’s the thing that’s really standing out to me.”
“We talked about the offensive scheme, and how they would use me in the offense,” Allen said. “I kinda picked their brains a little bit and I liked what I heard.”
The wholesale change in leadership within the Sun Devil football program also caught Allen’s eye.
“It kind of changed the mentality of the players, [and] you can tell that by the way they’re playing,” Allen said. “Last couple years you’ve seen a different mindset and attitude on the field, and it’s completely changed for the positive I think.”
