Coveted ASU hoops freshman ruled ineligible

It has been a long process for Jahii Carson and the Arizona State basketball team reguarding the eligibility for 2011-12 basketball season. But Friday, the NCAA came to a decision. The Sun Devil Freshman will be allowed to practice and participate fully with the team, however Carson will not be allowed to play in any games this season.

This situation began back over the summer when Carson did not meet the NCAA’s sliding scale for initial academic eligibility based on his GPA and ACT score. After taking the ACT a second time, the NCAA ultimately ruled the freshman ineligible.

Carson was considered by many as one of the top Arizona High School basketball prospects to come out of the state since Jerryd Bayless and was the top rated recruit in the Sun Devil’s 2011 freshman class.

ASU Head Coach Herb Sendek explained, though was not positive of the details, that Carson will still be given four years of eligibility starting next season.

Both Sendek and Carson look the NCAA’s ruling as a positive thing moving forward as Carson now can participate in practice and can develop as a member of the Sun Devils moving forward.

The 2011 season does go on for the Sun Devils. They look to get back into the win column vs. North Dakota State on Saturday from Wells Fargo Arena.
