Mike Bell, D-Backs Director of Player Development:
“His presence jumps out at you right away. He is a confident person and a good aggressive presence on the mound. He’s got a good fastball, a good fastball plane and a plus slider. We only saw him as a reliever last year because we were managing his innings but I am anxious to watch him pitch extended outings, watch him use his pitches a little bit more. He can be a very fast mover.”

Notes:
(Updated 7/5) Alex Young’s time with Kane County did not last long as he was called up to Visalia on July 2. Young was fantastic with the Cougars with that low 2 ERA and allowed an opponent batting average of just .217 in 50 innings pitched. What really stood out is his numbers when pitching with two outs for Kane County. He pitched a total of 15 innings with two outs and allowed an opponent batting average of just .204 with 11 hits and 12 Ks. It was said that Young had a “relievers mentality” on the mound after the D-Backs selected him in the second round in 2015 but his numbers as a starter continue to impress.
