Mike Bell, D-Backs Director of Player Development:

“Lugo is a guy we may move around a little bit. Have him maybe play some third. He’s a big strong kid. He has a very advanced swing and has had some good years in low A ball and hopefully we have the opportunity to push him a little bit but he can really swing the bat.”

(Updated 7/5) Lugo was once of the the top ranked international prospects before being signed by the Toronto Blue Jays in 2011. After playing shortstop in all but two games of his minor league career (those two at second base), the organization has played him mostly at third this season with the Rawhide and is looking very much like a corner infield bat in their lineup. That’s the story of Lugo in the field. The story of him at the plate in 2016 has been phenomenal has he has put up some of the best numbers of anyone in the minor league system. His runs scored jumps off the page having scored 56 in 75 games played. He is looking more and more like a viable third base option of the future for this team.
