D-Backs on Deck – Wei-Chieh Huang

Arizona Sports News online

Wei-Chieh Huang

POSITION:

RHP

TEAM:

Visalia Rawhide (A+)

ETA:

2018

AGE:

22

Mike Bell, D-Backs Director of Player Development:

“When he got to Kane County last year he really showed off his fast ball command, his plus change-up and his developing breaking ball. He got called into service in Taiwan so he was delayed with his throwing program, we are still going to be careful with his innings this year. We knew early on that we were going to have to help him get through this this year and then monitor his innings. So we will just take our time building him up now.”

2016 STATS:

June: Was assigned to D-Backs Extended Spring Training roster

Season: 6 starts, 26.1 IP, 1-1, 6.49 ERA, 1.71 WHIP, 25 Ks, 12 BB

2015 STATS:

15 games with Kane County, 76.2 IP, 12 starts, 7-3, 2.00 ERA, 0.97 WHIP, 68 Ks, 16 BB

Notes:

(Updated 7/6) They are still bringing Huang along slowly this season as he got a later start than everyone else having been called to duty for military service in Taiwan during the offseason. He had six starts with Visalia and fared extremely well before the organization reassigned him back to the Valley from some extended spring training outings.  Huang is going to take some time but the tools he possesses have to make D-Backs fans very excited about the future.
