The Diamondbacks were swept by the Rockies on Sunday ending their push for the 2018 Postseason.

Sept. 21: Rockies win 6-2
Sept. 22: Rockies win 5-1

Sept. 23: Rockies win 2-0

No postseason for D-backs

Midway through Sunday’s game, the Diamondbacks were eliminated from Wild Card contention as the Cardinals completed a sweep of the Giants with a 9-2 win. The Brewers, Cardinals and Rockies are now the lone survivors in the NL Wild Card race with a week left in the regular season.

Coming in to the finale, the Diamondbacks’ Posteseason elimination number was at one. With the loss they were eliminated.

Offense can’t get timely hits to score

The Diamondbacks offense totaled 18 hits in the series against the Rockies, while the Rockies tabbed 23. Those numbers don’t show much of a difference but the big factor was the Rockies were able to get timely hits that put them ahead, whereas the D-backs’ bats just couldn’t string together hits to get runs on the board.

Friday’s two runs in the first inning came after a big win on Wednesday against the Cubs and gave the D-backs hope they could turn the month around on the weekend, but those two runs would be all that the D-backs put up as they left five on base.

On Saturday the D-backs only had three hits. AJ Pollock was able to notch a run with a solo shot to left in the fifth inning, but that was all the spark the D-backs offense would see in that game.

On Sunday, the offense had seven hits, but none of them were able to plate a run as the D-backs left 10 on base and the Rockies were able to get the shutout.

Corbin makes potential last start at Chase Field

Patrick Corbin potentially made his last start at Chase Field in a D-backs’ uniform on Saturday as the lefty will be a free agent at the conclusion of 2018.

It wasn’t one that Corbin will remember fondly, however, as he only went three innings allowing four runs on five hits.

“I felt pretty good, just fell behind a good team,” Corbin said. “Just wasn’t working ahead, they made me work…They got guys on base, got the pitch count up, just a frustrating day.”

Next Up

The Diamondbacks will close out the last home stand of the regular season with three games against the Dodgers. Probable pitching matchups for the series are Clayton Kershaw v. Robbie Ray on Monday, Walker Buehler v. Matt Koch on Tuesday, and Ross Stripling v. Zack Greinke on Wednesday.
