The Arizona Diamondbacks named San Francisco bullpen coach Matt Herges as the team’s pitching coach Thursday morning.
Prior to his role with the Giants, Herges was with the Dodgers’ minor league system for seven seasons. As a player, Herges pitched for the Dodgers, Expos, Padres, Giants, Diamondbacks, Marlins, Rockies and Indians from 1999-2009.
Herges is the 10th coach to play and coach for the Diamondbacks, joining Jay Bell, Henry Blanco, Mike Fetters, Mark Grace, Andy Green, Robby Hammock, Eric Hinske, Turner Ward and Matt Williams.
Herges replaces Mike Butcher, who served as the team’s pitching coach since 2016.
Herges was managed by Diamondbacks manager Torey Lovullo in 2009 in Triple-A Columbus as a part of the Cleveland Indians organization.
