Desert Vista has been one of the strongest teams in the state all season but hit a small pump in the road during the sectionals getting blown out by Pinnacle.
But in their first game of the state tournament, the fifth seeded Thunder made a statement against a very good 12th seeded Mesa Mountain View team, eliminating them in grand fashion by the final score of 69-37.
Desert Vista burst out of the gates to a 25 to 5 lead and never looked back. Normally Desert Vista’s attack is led by their senior leaders, GCU commit Jeff Lowery and Eastern Washington commit Danny Powell, but Saturday it was as much a full team effort as you will see.
Another GCU commit was on display as Cam Boone tried to keep his fellow Toros alive in any way he could. But it was too steep a hill to climb.
Desert Vista advances will take on fourth seeded Gilbert in what will be an outstanding matchup. Tip off is at 2:30pm from Wells Fargo Arena on Tuesday.
