The Diamondbacks selected shortstop Matt McLain with the 25th overall pick in the MLB Draft.

McClain played his prep ball at Beckman High School in Tustin, California.

While listed as a shortstop, the 5-foot-11, 175-pound infielder has versatility to play multiple positions and hit .369 with 27 hits, 14 RBIs and three home runs. MLB Network’s Harold Reynolds said physically McLain has a similar build to Houston Astros infielder Alex Bregman.

The Diamondbacks will pick again in the Competitive Balance round with pick #39 overall.
