Higley athlete Draycen Hall accumulated close to 6,500 yards and notched 85 touchdowns. The 2016 Arizona Gatorade Player of the Year was nothing short of a nightmare for opposing defenses.
In the future, the Big Sky will have to deal with him. Hall committed to Southern Utah Wednesday morning. He will go on a two-year LDS mission before attending Southern Utah.
“They have a lot of guys who are most like me, in my opinion,” Hall said. “I clicked very well with the running backs coach while I was there. They kind of put me through some film and we were able to get that one-on-one relationship going.”
Higley head football coach Eddy Zubey knows how many ways Draycen Hall can make plays for the Thunderbirds.
“He’s probably the best guy I’ve ever coached,” Zubey said. “They are getting a great kid. They are getting a special football player, and like I said, more importantly, just being a great kid and he’ll be able to pull everyone together and go through hard work and not skip a beat.”
Hall is looking forward to his visit to deepen his faith and also overcome adversity when it comes.
“It’s going to be hard,” Hall said. “I’ll be away from my family, I won’t be able to talk to a lot of people, other than email once a week. I hope to gain lots of trust in myself and come closer to God obviously. College is going to be hard and football is going to be a grind especially in college.
“I think the mission is going to be something that pushes my limits and being in service of other people.”
Southern Utah Pipeline
The Thunderbirds will have Arizona ties all over their roster, and they bring in multiple battle-tested playmakers in their class of 2018. In addition to Draycen Hall, Red Mountain record-setting running back Lance Lawson, American Leadership Academy wide receiver Tanner McLachlin and defensive Aaron Romero and Red Mountain cornerback Gerald Wilbon will join him in Cedar City.
