Here are some hi-lights from our most recent conversation (December 4th) with the Fantasy Sports Writer’s Association Hall of Famer.
General fantasy advice for those of us starting our playoffs this weekend? “I said it a couple weeks ago: you to handcuff your top running backs and if you listened to me then you’re in good shape if you have James Conner. You continue to look for volume plays off of the waiver wire if you’re in need at the position of a couple of guys. I get it, people are going to stick with their studs but don’t be afraid to play the matchups at quarterback. Aaron Rodgers is a great quarterback. This season he’s been a very good fantasy quarterback, not a great one and, although I like the matchup this week, I can see why some people would want to fade him. You want to stick with your studs in most cases but quarterback is so ridiculously deep.”
I’ve gone back and forth on a few guys, is it best to trust my gut when setting my lineup? “Don’t be too cute. Josh Allen has two good games, I get it. But you’re not going to be starting him over Aaron Rodgers. You’re going to lean on your studs but this is a tough time when people are going to be stressed out about the matchups and I would just tell you, check the rankings of your favorite fantasy football analyst. Whether it’s myself or someone else in the industry and you’ve got to trust the process. That’s what we always say in the industry.”
Better start this week: Russell Wilson or Philip Rivers this week? “Rivers this week. Wilson has been good. Tough matchup this week against the Vikings. Rivers gets the Bengals and, as I mentioned, that is a nice matchup for anyone in the Chargers offense.”
Need some late-week waiver wire help please with A.J. Green being out again. “Dante Pettis could be an option. If you look at his numbers, three touchdowns in the last two games. He also has one of the easier schedule among wide receivers in the fantasy playoffs. So if Pettis is out there, he’s worth a look. Curtis Samuel is also worth a look but Pettis would be my number one target if I needed a wide receiver.”
