Every week during the season NFL Network and NFL.com Senior Fantasy Analyst Michael Fabiano joins Sports360AZ.com’s Brad Cesmat to share his insight on building and developing your fantasy team for success.
Here are some hi-lights from our most recent conversation (September 27th) with the Fantasy Sports Writer’s Association Hall of Famer.
As injuries pile up around the league, any players from last week helped themselves simply with more opportunity? “Maybe the biggest example from this past weekend of where an injured wide receiver helped someone else’s value is Terrelle Pryor. He played quarterback. He ran in a touchdown. He was targeted 14 times. Now he will be one of the best waiver wire pickups ahead of a game against the Washington Redskins who are down two defensive backs this week.”
Where are you at on Sammy Watkins? “Wait and see. I’m in leagues where I’ve seen him get cut and I’ve picked him up and I’m just waiting. Maybe he misses a few games. He was out last week. Maybe he’ll play this week, we’ll see what happens. Maybe that’s a good thing for him going forward for the rest of the year. Watkins was a favorite of mine in the preseason but that foot [injury] was the one issue and it’s become a big issue both for Bills and fantasy fans. The real issue there in Buffalo is Watkins goes out and there’s no one there who you can pick up to replace him. The wide receivers in Buffalo are, let’s just say, from a fantasy perspective not attractive. So, I’m not dropping [Watkins], I’m just sitting back waiting to see what happens.”
I’m about at the end of the rope with Michael Floyd. Thoughts? “Now he’s a guy that if you want to pick up a hot free agent, I can see dropping. It’s odd Brad, I’ve gotten caught up in a little bit of this, too. The darlings in Arizona’s pass attack have been John Brown and Michael Floyd. Brown was good last year, Floyd was ok, too. But Larry Fitzgerald is still there and he’s still the best wide receiver in Arizona for fantasy owners. Floyd has a lot of talent but the consistency isn’t there. Right now, after three weeks, Jaron Brown has more fantasy points than Michael Floyd.”
What’s the latest on Tyler Eifert in Cincinnati? “He needs to be owned in every league. He’s not practicing fully but he’s getting closer to returning. I’m not saying this is a guy who is going to come out and score double-digit touchdowns. Obviously, that’s not going to happen like it did last year but he’s a red zone threat and he’s clearly has a rapport with Andy Dalton so they’re going to look for him down in the red zone. Eifert is probably owned in most leagues, on NFL.com his ownership is almost 90% but there are some leagues where he could be available so if you need a tight end you may want to pick him up now.”
