Every week during the season NFL Network and NFL.com Senior Fantasy Analyst Michael Fabiano joins Sports360AZ.com’s Brad Cesmat to share his insight on building and developing your fantasy team for success.
Here are some hi-lights from our most recent conversation (September 26th) with the Fantasy Sports Writer’s Association Hall of Famer.
What is your early-season read on DeShaun Watson in Houston? “He needs to be picked up in a lot of leagues right now. When you go into New England, coached by Bill Belichick, and go for 20 fantasy points against that team. I know their defense isn’t as good as it’s been but still, that shows you something.”
Are you losing faith in Jameis Winston or do you need a bigger sample? “Winston is certainly not someone I’m going to drop. He needs to played when the match-up is favorable and last week was not a really favorable match-up. It was bad, actually. The Vikings have been so tough on quarterbacks on their home field over the last year plus. So I think you remain steady with Winston, in terms of the match-ups. I don’t love the match-up this week against the Giants but there are so many good quarterbacks. Again, you can pick up DeShaun Watson up off the waiver wire.”
Let’s stick to quarterbacks: how about Jared Goff in Los Angeles? “Back in the pre-season we talked about it. He may not be a valuable fantasy asset but what he does on the field is going to be a big determinant of the value of Todd Gurley, the value of Sammy Watkins for example. Gurley has been better than advertised. He’s already got six touchdowns and part of that is because Goff is no longer a punchline. He’s been pretty decent. Now, am I going to start him every week? Obviously not because the position is so deep and he’s clearly not at that level yet. This week his match-up is in Dallas. Boy, that Cowboys’ defense got after Carson Palmer but he also ended up putting up 21 fantasy points. So am I putting Goff in my Top 10? No. Is he streamable? Yes. If you play in a super flex league, would I use him? Absolutely.”
How about rookie running back Chris Carson up in Seattle? “Chris Carson needs to be owned in all leagues. I get it, the Seahawks’ backfield is troublesome because they can’t put out a very solid offensive line right now. I understand that. But he’s getting all the touches, he taking all the snaps. Eddie Lacy is an afterthought. Thomas Rawls is an afterthought. C.J. Prosise is used in the passing game so Carson needs to be owned in all leagues.”
Are we seeing a Jamaal Charles’ revival in Denver? “I was surprised last week he saw as many touches as he did. It wasn’t like he had a ton of touches and C.J. Anderson didn’t. I believe you’re going to see a correction this week and C.J. gets more work and C.J. remains the guy that I would prefer in that Broncos’ backfield. Is Jamaal Charles worth a roster spot? Sure. Is he as good as C.J. Anderson? Let’s not kid ourselves, he’s not.”
