Every week during the season NFL Network and NFL.com Senior Fantasy Analyst Michael Fabiano joins Sports360AZ.com’s Brad Cesmat to share his insight on building and developing your fantasy team for success.
Here are some hi-lights from our most recent conversation (October 18th) with the Fantasy Sports Writer’s Association Hall of Famer.
Is this re-birth of fantasy running backs real or simply a trend? “I told you this in the pre-season, the running back revival is coming in 2016. So far it has happened. David Johnson is at the lead of this. So far he is on pace for 344 fantasy points. That’s ridiculous. That’s like Priest Holmes-LaDainian Tomlinson-type numbers. [David Johnson] couldn’t be a better guy so he’s easy to root for but at least for me, it was easy to see because the running back position was getting younger with a lot of talent. Melvin Gordon has been better than advertised. You’ve got Ezekiel Elliott who is just unbelievable good this year. Tevin Coleman has been good. Lamar Miller is coming off a huge game.”
Should we be nervous about Antonio Brown’s fantasy value with Big Ben out? “I would be nervous but last year when Roethlisberger got hurt he had one good game. I think he had like 120-plus yards against Kansas City but he doesn’t score or he hasn’t scored without Roethlisberger under center. What do the Patriots like to do? Take away the number one option, whether they believe that’s “AB” or Le’Veon Bell that remains to be seen but I would temper my expectations for Antonio Brown. The good news is that Roethlisberger is going to be out this week but next week Pittsburgh has a bye. So if this is a minor clean up procedure, which is what they’re saying it is, they could be without him for one game and two weeks. So we’ll see what happens but this is one downfall of Antonio Brown if he had one. His value is closely tied to his quarterback’s health.”
Who are some quarterbacks you’re seeing available on the waiver wire this week? “Marcus Mariota is probably owned in your league but if you’re in a 10-team league and people aren’t paying attention is somebody to go out and pick up. Colin Kaepernick. He didn’t look that great but he had 18 fantasy points and he’s playing Tampa Bay this week and Tampa Bay’s defense is rotten so that’s an option, as well. Always take a look and see who’s been dropped in your leagues. You should always have your eye on the transactions. I’m in leagues where Doug Martin got dropped weeks ago and I picked him up and I’m just sitting on him. He’s supposed to be back pretty soon. So there may be leagues out there where people dropped Kirk Cousins. Great matchup this week against Detroit. He could be an option for you.”
How do you handle the potential Dak Prescott-Tony Romo situation in Dallas? “Listen, how do the Cowboys take Dak out?! If the Cowboys lost at Lambeau Field I could see it. Ok, you’re 4-2, you did your job and now it’s time to go back to Romo. He’s 5-1. He hasn’t been turning the ball over at all. He just threw his first interception of the season. He’s a rookie! He’s goes into Lambeau Field and beats Aaron Rodgers. You know I’ve been talking about Dak Prescott from the pre-season…this kid’s good. I don’t drop him because the Cowboys are on a bye. Look at his schedule. Dak’s schedule is so attractive, especially in the fantasy playoffs. I would keep Romo on the waiver wire right now in fantasy leagues.”
