Every week during the season NFL Network and NFL.com Senior Fantasy Analyst Michael Fabiano joins Sports360AZ.com’s Brad Cesmat to share his insight on building and developing your fantasy team for success.
Here are some hi-lights from our most recent conversation (September 30th) with the Fantasy Sports Writer’s Association Hall of Famer.
What is happening in Kansas City with their receivers from your view? “It’s almost impossible to predict because any given week one of these guys can go off. You know, it was Sammy Watkins in Week One and then it was Demarcus Robinson and then for a couple of weeks it was Mecole Hardman because Patrick Mahomes is gonna find the guy who’s open. Whether it’s Watkins or whether it’s Hardman or whether it’s Robinson in a given week that’s what the scenario is going to be.”
Staying in Kansas City, how would you break down their running back situation? “We’re sort of seeing a shared situation with that backfield, too. Damien Williams has been out and LeSean McCoy has been the guy who has been atop the depth chart but you look at Darrel Williams, he’s getting touches, too and he’s outscored LeSean McCoy two-straight weeks despite the fact the touches are pretty close. In fact, Williams had more snaps played this past week. So you’re seeing something in an Andy Reid backfield that you typically don’t see and that’s a committee scenario. When Damien Williams does come back, it could be pretty confusing for fantasy owners and that’s too bad because typically Andy Reid running backs produce really good numbers.”
What do you make of the Cardinals’ defense, especially against tight ends? “Every single week they are getting absolutely destroyed by tight ends. In fact, right now they’re giving up almost 28 points per game in the division and the next worst defense is giving up 19.6. They are getting crushed. Is that going to continue? We’ll see but Tyler Eifert is going to be a hot name off the waiver wire for people who need a tight end.”
How quickly can we expect Melvin Gordon to get his touches in LA? “Since the Chargers have kind of shown already that they’re not going to pay Melvin Gordon and he’s an unrestricted free agent at the end of this season, they’re going to give him the ball a lot. They are going to give him the football as much as he can take it.”
What are your thoughts on Gardner Minshew and his production? “He’s fun to watch man but the thing is, he is producing but not outstanding numbers. His numbers are kind of on par with what Kyler [Murray] been doing. He’s giving you like 16 to 17 points, he’s got Carolina this week, it’s not a terribly great match up. So, Minshew is not starting in traditional fantasy leagues, he’s more of a two-QB super flex league play. But he’s fun to watch, he’s been good for the league and certainly rosterable in fantasy leagues if you are in two-QB leagues.”
