Here are some hi-lights from our most recent conversation (September 25th) with the Fantasy Sports Writer’s Association Hall of Famer.

What’s the most popular move people are making on the waiver wire? “Picking up Calvin Ridley who is available in a lot of leagues. Actually, a handful of wide receivers who might be available in your league including Mike Williams, including Tyler Boyd. Calvin Ridley with four touchdowns in his last two games, three touchdowns this last week. The top rookie wide receiver we sort of projected to be D.J. Moore. So far it’s been Calvin Ridley and in that offense which has been clicking on all cylinders, going up against the Bengals this week that could be a shootout there. He is the number one name to pick up on the waiver wire this week.”

What do you do with Ryan Fitzpatrick this week? “Well, he’s got the Bears in Week Four so I’d bench him. I get it. The numbers he’s putting up are ridiculous, although a lot of us were ready to bury him in that game against the Steelers because he was throwing picks left and right. But he came back with 25 fantasy points, 400-plus passing yards in three straight games. That’s an NFL record so I just don’t like the matchup. Road game. Bears defense is fired up with Khalil Mack. I would fade Fitzpatrick this week.”

What is happening here in Arizona with David Johnson?  “Yeah, Brad. Do you know Mike McCoy? Could you please talk to him? Do something Brad. Do something! Last week was very depressing for me having David Johnson on one of my teams. It wasn’t ever a game script issue. The Cardinals were ahead in the game. It was close the entire game and he still didn’t get enough touches. I don’t get it. This dude can do it all and honestly, statistically, they’re kind of neutering him and I don’t get it because he’s the best offensive player on their team except for Larry Fitzgerald and Fitzgerald isn’t 100 percent right now.”

What do you see in Baltimore with the Ravens backfield?  “Confusion. I mean, Buck Allen has been the goal line back. He’s already scored four touchdowns this season. He’s been the better fantasy back. Alex Collins actually sort of [bounced back] last week and got into the end zone but it’s a committee. Its not what we expected. Allen is the goal line back and that’s hurting Alex Collins’ value. So this is a situation where Collins is a flex at this point and I think Buck Allen, to a degree, is a touchdown-dependent flex.”

What is another backfield somewhat in-flux right now? “The Colts backfield which, to me, is an absolute mess. Marlon Mack has been banged up. If he comes back is he the guy? I don’t know if he’s the guy. At this points it seemingly a three-headed backfield monster. But there are still a lot of backfields out there that have a lot of questions that have been left unanswered and I’d like to see some answers quickly.”
