Here are some hi-lights from our most recent conversation (September 10) with the Fantasy Sports Writer’s Association Hall of Famer.

Thoughts on Jeremy Maclin’s matchup Monday night against the Colts? “Maclin actually doesn’t have the best matchup. If you look at what the Colts did to Demaryius Thomas last week. They held him in-check so Maclin to me is more of a [wide receiver] three. Less of a two. I’m a little bit worried about that matchup.”

How would you describe 31-year-old Larry Fitzgerald’s fantasy value in 2014? “We’ve seen games where Larry does nothing and then he puts up a huge stat line so he’s not an elite fantasy receiver anymore at this point. He’s more of a two. I still stick with him unless you’re really deep at wide receiver…Fitzgerald is a guy I’m still starting but you have to temper your expectations. It’s not the same receiver who was elite in fantasy years ago.”

Would you consider this an excellent year for running backs across the league? “We’ve already seen injuries. We know Ben Tate is going to be out for a few weeks…we know Doug Martin has the mysterious knee/leg injury from last year. Sort of mysterious. So this is why you need to have depth and why you needed to build depth in the draft at the running back position because injuries happen. The running backs are the offensive skill position that’s most likely to get hurt because it’s the most punishing offensive skill position out there. That’s why you need to have depth so anytime anybody comes out on the waiver wire: Justin Forsett, Terrance West whoever it might be to have a shot to start or see a significant role in a backfield, you’ve got to go out and get them.”
