Four teams who could make a big run in the Arizona High School basketball State Tournament were on display from Chaparral High School on Friday night for the Division I, Section III semi-finals.
The first a matchup between Desert Mountain and Brophy. The Broncos have had most of the success in recent years vs. the Wolves but that was not the case this time. The Wolves advance to the sectional finals, knocking off Brophy 61-52 thanks to great outside shooting and strong play down low from Conor Johnson.
The second game was between two teams that faced each other early in the season, Pinnacle and Desert Vista. In the first meeting between these two, the Thunder embarrassed the Pioneers on their home floor with a 70-55 win.
Pinnacle out for some revenge bursted out of the gates out-scoring Desert Vista 21-4 in the first quarter. Pioneers went on to win it 64-34 behind stellar all around play from Drew Bender.
Pinnacle and Desert Mountain have played three times already this season, with Pinnacle winning two of them. Tip-off for the section three finals is at 7:30pm from Chaparral High School in Scottsdale.
