Field of Dreams: Valley Bowl Game Returns to Chase

Arizona Sports News online

The Cactus Bowl has a new home.

Well, sort of.

Tuesday it was announced the game will return to where it was first played, as the Insight Bowl in downtown Phoenix. The re-location comes after calling Sun Devil Stadium home for nearly a decade.

“We are proud to partner with Chase Field for the upcoming Cactus Bowl games,” said Fiesta Bowl Chairman of the Board Matt Winter. “Chase Field has a proud history in the Arizona community and we look forward to working with them to not only deliver the superior bowl experience that our fans have come to know and love, but also to help further our mission to make Arizona a better place.”

The bowl made the announcement official at a press conference held at the home of the Arizona Diamondbacks Tuesday afternoon. The games will continue to pair Big 12 and Pac-12 teams for the next several years.

“I like the fact that we’re downtown,” Big 12 Commissioner Bob Bowlsby said. “I think this will create a real festive atmosphere. I don’t have any doubt that this is going to be highly successful.”

The agreed upon three-year move coincides with the Sun Devil Stadium renovation plans.

No official date has been set for the Cactus Bowl. The Fiesta Bowl will be played January 1st and the College Football Playoff Championship January 11th at University of Phoenix Stadium in Glendale.
