Four Phoenix high school golfers have been selected to compete in an official PGA Tour Championship event in Pebble Beach, California.
The First Tee of Phoenix is sending Jack Breidenbach (Chaparral High School), Taylor Harvey (Cactus Shadows High School), Michelle Koo (BASIS Scottsdale) and Mika Miyata (Desert Vista High School) to compete in the 2018 PURE Insurance Championship Impacting The First Tee golf tournament during September.
This marked only the second time in the events history where four participants were selected from the same chapter.
The tournament will pair 81 junior golfers with 81 PGA Tour Champions Players and will be televised internationally on the Golf Channel when it is played in September. The players selected to the field will compete for the pro-junior title.
“These kids have worked so hard to be selected to compete in this prestigious event,” Kevin Terry, executive director of The First Tee of Phoenix, said. “To have one member from our chapter selected would be an incredible honor. To see four deserving young athletes get the chance to play one of the world’s best golf courses is truly remarkable. We couldn’t be more proud, and we wish the best of luck to all of them.”
The junior field was announced July 9 on Golf Channel’s Morning Drive.
“We are proud to be a part of such a prestigious event that supports so many deserving young men and women from The First Tee throughout the country,” Katherine Frattarola, Chief Marketing Officer of the PURE Group of Insurance Companies, said. “They are what make this tournament so special, and it’s humbling to be a part of something that has such a profound impact on their lives both on and off the course.”
The four golfers from The First Tee of Phoenix will join 77 other golfers that were selected by a panel of judges. Participants were selected from 22 states across the nation. The event tees off September 24 and concludes September 30.
